The NAACP North Shore Branch Launches the Avis Peters Scholarship

The NAACP North Shore Branch seeks students with a passion for its mission of eradicating race-based discrimination.

The NAACP North Shore Branch launched the Avis Peters Scholarship in 2023, and is now preparing for it’s second round of awards in 2024. This Avis Peters scholarship is aimed at students from the African Diaspora who demonstrate academic promise and who share a passion for our mission of eradicating race-based discrimination.

The scholarship is open to current high school seniors currently based in, or originally from, the North Shore, Massachusetts. The NAACP North Shore Branch will award $2,500 in scholarship to the winner.

The NAACP North Shore Branch acknowledges the high cost associated with higher education and is committed to providing financial assistance to students from the African Diaspora who demonstrate academic promise in any field of a four-year undergraduate study endeavor.

In 2009, The Avis Peters scholarship was established in honor of Ms. Peters who was a supporter of the NAACP.  The scholarship awards one $2,500 scholarship to a student of any major or area of study at a four-year institution who exhibits strong leadership skills and is active in their school and community. The scholarship is scheduled to be awarded three times: in 2023, 2024 and 2025.
